Nuvvo - free LMS

I was talking to Gerry last week and he recommends this...

"Nuvvo is your way to teach on the web. Everyone knows a little bit about something, and this free, AJAX-enhanced eLearning web service is designed to bring out the teacher in all of us. Sign up and build a course in minutes; advertise your course on our eLearning Market to get the word out. Get teaching with Nuvvo, Web 2.0's answer to eLearning".[link]

I checked out the Nuvvo tutorial and it was excellent. If ever you've wondered what an LMS is, take this tutorial. The bonus this system brings is no price to pay and nothing to install. It still seems like 'push' system though. So long as we're not using CSoM stuff then we could try out some of our own learning objects on Nuvvo.

Hi,

I'm a member of the Nuvvo team. Thanks for posting about us!

I just wanted to clarify...what do you mean by a 'push' system? We're always working to make the system more usable and relevant and your input is appreciated!

Thanks!

tobes - I agree - Nuvvo looks great. I also noticed that they offer an enterprise version - http://www.nuvvo.com/enterprise - although some of the links to it from the Nuvvo site don't work. I guess the enterprise version could run off our server and would therefore be more secure...

Hi Malgosia, thanks for checking us out.

Maybe I'm using an inaccurate term, but by 'push' I mean Nuvvo seems to fulfil my expectations of LMS's namely by delivering pre-defined learning objects. I understand that anyone can create and post objects to Nuvvo; but once the material is defined as a learning object, there seems to be little customisation of that object the user can influence. Out of interest, I come from the constructionist school of thought, which stipulates that knowledge is co-created, jointly utilised and, in the process, jointly re-defined to create new knowledge. How is this iterative process part of Nuvvo?

Cheers

Tobes,

We have extensive plans for this sort of functionality in the coming months (we only launched late last fall). Any suggestions you have are welcome. I encourage you to sign up and try things out.
